The 1st XI continued their winning run at the weekend while the 2nd XI just missed out doing the same. Ella Hadler made history (again) being the first female to captain a senior side in the Club’s history.
The 1st XI were at home to Ashford Town CC and decided to put the visitors into bat. Tyler Wassell (2 for 14) and Haris Khan (1 for 15) opened the bowling with Tyler picking up two wickets before the opposition scored a run. Ashford tried digging but Haris broke the partnership and followed it up shortly afterwards with a run out. Ethan Collier (0 for 21) and Harry Mantle (2 for 28) took over with Harry picking up an early wicket leaving Ashford 47 for 5. Harry then picked up a run out followed by a second wicket which left Tom Carey (3 for 2) to clear up the tail end with good support from Ricky Dale (9 overs for 21) as Ashford Town found themselves all out for 105 in the 42nd over.
James Weller was the only wicket after tea as Tom Carey (53 no) and Ricky Dale (28no) crossed the line in just 16.2 overs
The 2nd XI were away to Sheppey 1st team and were put into bat. Simon Cosstick (26) got the team off to a start and Alan Hampton (59) and Will Cosstick (18) added to the score. However wickets fell and restricting the runs and the team reached 147 for 8 at the end of their 40 overs.
Alan Hampton (9 overs 1 for 12) bowled well and a run out by Lee Cogger put pressure on the home team early on but two half centuries appeared to have take the game away but wickets from Lee Cogger (2 for 24) and two run outs meant the game would go down to the wire as Sheppey managed to creep across the line on the second to last ball of the match.
Ella Hadler made history by leading the 3rd XI team out at home against Sheppey 2nd XI. Put into the field fine bowling from Ollie Julier (1 for 18) and Toby Heather (1 for 19) got the team off to a good start. Jay Sharma (2 for 18) picked up his first wicket at senior level. and with Sophie Hogben (2 for 10) bowling superbly at the other end the visitors struggled. Ella (1 for 16) and George Ward (3 for 5) cleaned out the tail end as Sheppey found themselves all out for 89 in the 37th over (Top score Extras 24!!)
Nathan Glazier (8) and Caleb Deveson (23) got the team off to a good start but 5 wickets went down and the pressure started to build. Brian Carey (23no) steadied the ship and support from George Ward (9 no) who scored his first and very valuable first runs for the Club at Senior level saw the 3s across the line in the 35th over with 3 wickets to spare.
Well done to all teams this weekend and especially Ella for once again making Club history
