The 2nd XI had a good win at home against Linton Park 2nd XI at the weekend.     Elsewhere Tom Carey and dad Brian playing for the 1st and 3rd XI respectively were both out on the first ball of their team’s innings which is known in cricket as a Platinum Duck.

The 2s were part of a double header at the weekend against Linton Park.  Playing at home the team won the toss and elected to bat.   Lee Taylor (22) and Paul Surridge (23) got the team off to a solid start and Will Surridge (25) and Alan Hampton (36) continued the good work.   Chris Hogg (40 no) and Dan Covey (17 no) finished the innings as the team reached 179 for 4 in their 40 overs.

Opening bowler Ethan Collier (4 for 38) was on a hat-trick in his first over picking up two quick wickets and with captain Adam Rayner (4 for 34) also picking up a wicket at the other end also in his first over the visitors came under pressure early on.  Alan Hampton and Dan Covey bowled well in the middle spell both taking 1 for 29 but when Ethan removed Linton’s run maker on 71 it left Adam to mop up as the opposition found themselves all out 11 runs short at the end of the 39th over.

The 1s travelled up the road to Upchurch and elected to field.  Haris Khan and Tyler Wassell made early breakthroughs with the home team finding themselves 32 for 2.  Upchurch dug in reaching 123 before the next wicket fell as Tom Gunner finally broke the partnership picking up two wickets for no runs.  However, Michael Hales Jnr showed his class batting reaching 118 no and taking the home team to 237 for 6 off their 45 overs.

The chase did not start well as Tom Carey claimed the first platinum for the family.    Upchurch’s opening bowler proved too much taking 7 wickets as the team found themselves all out for 62.  Nick Page (29 no) was the only batsman to put up any resistance.

The 3s travelled to Linton Park as part of the double header and met an over strong team for Division 12 as the home team put on 347 for 6 in their 40 overs.   The team did Bapchild proud sticking to their bowling and fielding in what was a tough afternoon.

Linton not wishing to ease off went on the attack after the break with Brian picking up the second piece of platinum for the Carey family.  Wickets fell regularly and apart from stubborn resistance from captain Linc Bryden (64) who had sensed the situation and promoted himself up the order the team found themselves all out for 86 in the 25th over.

There was no Sunday Game

Unfortunately the U12s game was cancelled due to the rain and the U14s had to concede due to availability
