Ethan’s 7 for 13 helps relegation battle

Ethan Collier bowled a magnificent spell taking 7 wickets for just 13 run which helped to give the 2s a valuable victory and boost in their current relegation battle.

The 1s travelled to Nonninton and decided to field.

Nonnington started steadily before Owen Harrison (1 for 16) made the breakthrough. The home team then put on a 51 run partnership but the momentum shift back to Bapchild’s as 5 wickets fell for just 21 runs. A forty run partnership from the lower middle order moved the score on but two more wickets fell as Nonnington reached 170 for 8 in their 45 overs. The bowling attack all bowled well with Tom Carey (3 for 30) , Harry Mantle (1 for 20), Kesha Rajadurai (1 for 22) and Amith Lokesh (1 for 31) sharing the wickets.

The team lost an early wicket but Tom Carey (39) and James Weller (36) put on a 62 run partnership. Unfortunately after that stand was broken the team couldn’t out together another big stand as wickets fell regularly. Ben Wiebe-Williams hit a fine 38 but no other batsman was able to reach double figures as the team was bowled out at the start of the 42nd over for 169 just 1 run short of Nonnington’s score

The 2s were battling relegation at the start of the weekend and were up against 2nd in the league Southfleet. Southfleet with one of the best bowling attacks in the league elected to field and were in the wickets early doors and throughout the innings. Alan Hampton (25) and Chris Hogg (18 no) helped by Lee Cogger (4 no) managed to get the team to 111 for 9 in their 40 overs. Top score extras also helping greatly.

With just a small total defend the visitors felt confident but hadn’t faced Ethan in the match at their ground earlier in the season. Ethan bowled accurately apart from two balls moving the ball both ways at good pace which proved too much for the visitors line up. Six of his victims were bowled as he picked up 7 wickets for just 13 runs in his 33 ball spell. Adam Rayner (3 for 12) at the other end bowled equally as well giving Southfleet no respite to recover and regroup. The team’s fielding was also exceptional and it was fitting that Ethan took two wickets in two balls to end the visitors innings in the 11th over for just 25 runs. The 20 point win moved the team to 7th place and 18 points above relegation with just two games to go.

The 3s travelled to Orpington Ocelots and was put into bat. Chris Wood (12) and Simon Rose (87 no) got the team off to the perfect start reaching 50 runs before Chris was given out LBW. Yuvraj Rajgor (20) added to the score before being caught. Paul Surridge (46) entered the fray and scored freely putting on a 84 run partnership with Simon before being run out. Dan Covey chipped in with 11 at the end as the team reached a very respectable 200 for 4 off their 40 overs. Danish Zia (2 for 21) picked up early wickets supported by Lincoln Bryden (1 for 19). Dan Covey’s 4 for 37 and two run outs removed the middle order and combined with good tight bowling by Emily Surridge (0 for 26), Joshua Rose (0 for 14) and Ella Hadler (0 for 20) the home team reached just 143 for 9 in their allotted 40 overs. The

team is now sitting 5th in the league and looking for their best ever season finish.

The Sunday XI tralled to to the beautiful Penshurst Park Cricket Club which sits in the grounds of Penshurst Place. Put in the field by the league leaders and despite good bowling and an unusual outfield the home team scored freely. reaching 113 for 0 at 20 over mark. The team battled on and manage to peg Penshurst back from what could have been an extremely high score. The home team finished on 268 for 7 off their 40 overs. Ben Wiebe-Williams 2 for 56, Owen Harrison (1 for 25) Aaryan Rajgor (1 for 40) and Amith Lokesh (1 for 30) picking up the wickets. The Rajgor brothers both picking up a runout each.

The home teams bowling attack was as good as their batting attack and the team found it hard to score freely. Tom Carey (62) Ben Wiebe-Williams (38) Owen Harrison (35) and James Weller (17) all making double figures as the team reached 184 for 5 att he end of the game.
