2nd Team Summary – 2018 Season

With both 1st and 2nd XI teams in the Kent Cricket League the hope was to build on the previous year and look for them to challenge for promotion in 2018.

The 2nd XI started well with a low scoring win again Addington away from home.

A rain shortened match of 41 overs against Shooters Hill saw the team score 282 for 4 (Nick Page 89, James Sutton 51) and win by 133 runs. A third & fourth wins came against Tonbridge where they chased down 209 runs with 4 wickets to spare (John Heatley 65) and Harvel in an 8 wicket win (John Heatley 99). Despite Dan Pumfrett’s half century (56) the team lost to Ashford but they returned to winning ways against Hartley scoring 232 (Nick Page 86, James Weller 57) and bowling the visitors out for 139 (Luke Whitehouse 4 for 34). The following week against Bromley Town they were chasing 151 but fell short by 52 runs before returned to winning ways against Offham scoring 272 for 1 (Dan Pumfrett 137 no, Robert Kennett 96) and bowling the opposition out for a 129 run win. The final game in the first half of the season saw the team keep Leeds and Broomfield to 215 (James Weller 4 for 31) but fell just 22 runs short of the win (Nick Page 53)

The second half opened with a second loss in a row as they faced Addington despite William Cosstick’s 70 run maiden half century. The team responded with three wins in a row against Shooters Hill (Joe Mills 77), Tonbridge (Robert Kennett 71) and Harvel (Rob Kennett 83, James Sutton 60, Ethan Collier 4 for 44). A second loss to Ashford (Dan Pumfrett 56) looked to dash hopes of promotion. But wins against Bromley Town (Rob Kennett 106, John Heatley 62, Joe Mills 4 for 17) and Offham (Nathan Glazier 79, Lincoln Bryden 4 for 28 incl. a hat-trick) the team found themselves on the last game of the season against Leeds and Broomfield needing a win and keeping their opposition to get getting less than 5 bonus points. Unfortunately even with Alan Hampton’s 5 for 27 is was not to be and their opponents secured their own promotion by just one wicket while the team came 3rd.

Due to the league reshuffle the 2nd XI has been promoted to the 4th Division for 2019 and they look forward the challenge

Rob Kennett won the Division 5 2nd XI batting award with 536 run at an average of 35.73 and the Club is extremely proud of his achievement.
