1st Team Summary – 2018 Season

With both 1st and 2nd XI teams in the Kent Cricket League the hope was to build on the previous year and look for them to challenge for promotion in 2018.

The 1st team did not get off to a good start losing their first game against Frindsbury by 96 runs having being bowled out for just 90. The following week’s game was rained off against Kings Hill and the team hoped for their first win after scoring 241 against Bettshanger at home with Ricky Dale scoring 64. Unfortunately Bettshanger had different ideas reaching the total with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare. The first win arrived against Chislehurst with the team scoring 288 for 8 (Owen Harrison 50) before bowling the opposition out for 229 (Tyler Wassell 4 for 27). With wins against Dartfordians (Ricky Dale 94) and Faversham (Ricky Dale 113, Tom Carey 57) the team looked set but unfortunately lost against Staplehurst by 8 wickets the following week. The team scored 302 for 3 against Offham (Tom Carey 125, Adam Larking 64, Lee Taylor 54) and bowled them out for 263 (Owen Harrison 4 for 55). Unfortunately a loss by 127 runs against Old Williamsonian signalled the end of the first half of the season

The second half of the season started with another loss against Frindsbury in a low scoring match but returned to winning ways against Kings Hill (Owen Harrison 4 for 18). A good win at Bettshanger chasing down 215 (Callum Leary 58) set the team up for their best win of the season against Chislehurst where they posted the club’s highest ever score in the KCL of 378 for 4 (Ricky Dale 146, Adam Larking 76) before bowing out the opposition for 160 (Matt Lewis 5 for 26). A low scoring win against Dartfordians (Luke Whitehouse 4 for 15, Matt Lewis 57) was followed by a win against Faversham (Matt Lewis 107). The following week saw them away to Staplehurst. Put into bat the team reached 205 before being bowled out in the 46th over (Lee Taylor 61, Ricky Dale 50). Staplehurst looked to be in a commanding position but an inspired bowling change saw Thomas Carey take 4 for 34 and the team beat the eventual league winners by 31 runs. A loss against Offham the following week meant their season ended at home against Old Williamsonians. Putting on 294 for 6 (Adam Larking 79, Thomas Carey 56, Lee Taylor 52) the team topped a good season with a 145 run win (Ricky Dale 4 for 36) and finishing 4th in the table.

Due to the league reshuffle the 1st XI has been promoted to the 4th Division for 2019 and they look forward the challenge
