1st Team Summary – 2016 Season

After the disappointment of being relegated from Division 4 the first team entered the 2016 season keen to be in the promotion battle and got off to the perfect start against Blackheath at home. Scoring 280 for 9 off their allotted overs the team picked up a win in the opening game bowling the visitors out for 226 in the 49th over with Darrell Carter and Joshua Hunt both picking up 4 wickets a piece.

Away to Tonbridge the following week the team scored 194 for 9 (Lee Taylor 52) but failed to build on the previous win as Tonbridge reached the total with 3 wickets to spare despite Joshua Hunt picking up 5 more wickets. The third week saw the local derby with Rodmersham and again batting first everyone chipped in with the team reaching 222 for 7. At 100 for 1 the visitors looked comfortable but Ricky Dale (5 for 35) supported by Alan Hampton (3 for 17) saw 9 wickets fall for just 33 runs.

Heavy loss to Walmer the following week and falling just 8 runs short on a low scoring game against Rainham (Adam Rayner 4 for 24) dented their ambition for promotion.

The following week the team travelled to RACS and batting first score 182 and were in total control with RACS on 41 for 5 (Darrell Carter 3 for 11) when rain ended the days play. Another derby against Faversham saw the opposition bowled out for 173 with Joshua Hunt (5 for 35). Wickets fell regularly after tea but Matt Lewis (45 no) saw the team home with a tense 1 wicket win. Adam Larking scored 89 as the team scored 202 against Chislehurst but the rain came forcing another abandonment. Rain won again the following against Frindsbury as the first half of the season came to an end.

Blackheath away saw the team all out for 160. At 100 for 0 Blackheath looked to be cruising but Lee Cogger (5 for 36) almost snatched a win as the home team lost 8 wickets before reaching the set target. A loss to Tonbridge saw the team now flirting with relegation so the local derby against Rodmersham was crucial and the team did not let the club down. Scoring 319 for 6 (Adam Larking 69, Lee Taylor 62, Ricky Dale 52, Tomas Carey 48) the team went on to bowl Rodmersham out for 79 (Joshua Hunt 4 for 45, Tyler Wassell 3 for 14, Matt Roche 3 for 19). Ricky Dale pick up 5 wickets (5 for 50) against Walmer and despite Ricky’s 92 the team failed to reach the total. Ricky scored 61 the following week against Rainham but the opposition cruised home by 7 wickets.

RACS at home was another must win game and Ricky Dale’s 123 meant the team reached 264 for 8 and bowled RACS out with just 3 balls to spare to pick up a valuable 20 pts (Michael Willis 4 for 19).   Matt Lewis (79) scored his maiden 50 for club as the team picked up another win against Faversham bowling the opposition out for 134 and 76 runs short. A heavy loss to Chislehurst was followed by the last game of the season against Frindsbury. Chasing promotion the opposition declared on 201 and the tactic paid off as the team was bowled out for 177 despite Ricky Dale’s 73.

The team finished a very comfortable 6th position and look forward to build on it during the 2017 season

We were extremely proud of Rick Dale who won Division 5’s 1st XI Batting Award with 615 runs.
