Bapchild Cricket Club

1st Team Summary – 2015 Season

The first team entered the 2015 season looking to do well off the back of their promotion to the 4th Division. The season started with a home game against Westgate and on winning the toss, new captain, Lee Taylor elected to bat. A good solid start from the openers (Adam Larking 66) was capitalised on by Dylan Lee who hit a superb 134 and with good support meant Bapchild reached 266. Westgate top four played well but a good second spell from Adam Rayner (4 for 64) and Tyler Wassell (2 for 47) looked like the team may come away with a win on the first day. However Westgate held on reaching 232 for 8 and the first game was a winning draw.

The following week the team travelled to Harvel and picked up two very early wickets but Havel rallied and reached 216 for 9 off their allotted overs (Ricky Dale 4 for 60). The team batted well but unfortunately even though 8 players scored double figures no one kicked on and the team was all out for 178 in the 44th over.

Catford Wanderers visited Radfield Hill next and the visitors were asked to bat. A strong batting line up meant they reached 241 for 8 in their allotted overs (Joe Mills 3 for 12, Michael Wills 3 for 50). Bapchild had no answer to Ashley Forde who picked up 5 for 29 and found themselves all out for 76 in the 20th over. Leeds & Broomfield away has always been a tough match and the next game proved no different as the team lost by 171 runs.

The team travelled just a few miles down the road the following week to Faversham. Losing the toss was put in the field and some fine bowling by Alan Hampton, Matthew Roche and Ricky Dale, all picking up three wickets, meant the home team were all out for 139. Fifties from Adam Larking and Dylan Lee meant the team won by a comfortable 7 wickets and picked up value points.   An incomplete match due to the weather against Bettshangar the following week and a loss to Offham at home (Adam Larking 69) meant the last game in the first half of the season against Downham and Bellingham was important to try an get a second win and more points. An excellent 122 not out from Ricky Dale saw the team reach a good 244 in their allotted overs. Matthew Roche picked up 4 for 45 but it wasn’t enough as the visitors won by 6 wickets.

Travelling to Westgate a fine 100 from Joe Mills meant the team reached 203 but a good opening stand by the home team meant a comfortable 5 wicket win for them. Two draws against Harvel and Catford followed by wins against Offham and Faversham with only a loss against, eventual league champions, Leeds and Broomfield saw some real fighting spirit by the team.

However, heavy losses to Bettshangar and Offham the following week meant the team found themselves relegated in the second to last game of the season.

The Club is proud of its 1st team, it was a difficult year especially with players missing or unable to play regularly but the team spirit remains and they will no doubt bounce next season.
