Bapchild Cricket Club

1st Team Summary – 2013 Season

The first game of the season which was away to Chislehurst was incomplete due to the inclement weather but a strong start with the home team being bowled out for 188 (Matthew Roche 4 for 23) and Bapchild just 21 short with ten overs and 4 wickets remaining (Dylan Lee 71) as the rain affected game finally run out of time.

The following week the team were home to Westgate and found themselves chasing 211 falling short by some 77 runs. A week late found ourselves at home against eventual league champions Blackheath. Batting first the team put on 151 on a damp, 40 over reduced match (Joe Mills 39, Steve Roberts 38). Catching Blackheath on a drying wicket with excellent bowling by Alan Hampton (5 for 27) and Alex Ward (4 for 28) saw the visitors bowled out for 57.

Next game was against Bromley Town and the excellent bowling continued as the home team was bowled out for 61 (Matt Roche 5 for 13) with Bapchild knocking of the runs with the loss of just two wickets (Joe Mills 30 not out)

Bapchild winning run came to an end against Rainham at home with the visitors scoring 211 for 9 (Matthew Roche 6 for 72) and Bapchild posting only 154 in return (Dylan Lee 54).

The following week saw the team travel to Gravesend Rugby Club on a very windy day. Under difficult conditions the team scored 207 with excellent innings from Ricky Dale (82) and Adam Larking (32) and with Matthew Roche gaining his third 5 wicket haul (6 for 32) saw the home team bowled out for 95.

RACS away saw a winning draw for the team as they posted 211 batting first (Dylan Lee 53, Ricky Dale 44) but failed to take the last two wickets as RACS posted 187 for 8.

The end of June saw a home game against Bickley Park and another winning draw. Batting first the team scored 210 (Dylan Lee 45, Cameron Archbold 40 and Alex Ward 32) with Bickley holding on desperately for their last wicket at the end of their 50 overs. It was nice to see Josh Hunt return from injury bowling for the first time in the season and picking up two wickets.

The last game of first half of the season saw the team travel to Leeds and Broomfield. The home team put on an impressive 271 (Hampton 4 for 82) and Bapchild fell 158 runs short with only Ricky Dale (41 not out) and Cameron Archbold (32) putting up any resistance.

The start of the second half of the season saw Chislehurst travelling to Bapchild. Electing to bat first they reached 183 with both Joshua Hunt and Matthew Roche picking up three-a-piece. Adam Larking (63) and Ricky Dale (60) put on a 109 4th wicket partnership giving the home team a 5 wicket victory.

The following week saw the team travel to Westgate and after winning the toss and putting Westgate into bat appeared to be the right play as they bowled the opposition out for 166. A club season best bowling performance by Josh Hunt who picked up a superb 8 for 49 set the club up for a good win. Unfortunately the team came up 14 runs short being bowled out for 152.

Blackheath away was the next game and again the batting came up short putting on only 137 with Blackheath knocking them off with 6 wickets to spare.

The following week went the same way again with Bromley Town bowling the team out for 132 and winning comfortably, again by 6 wickets.

Needing a win the team travelled to local team Rainham. Winning the toss and deciding to bat the team put on 232 for 6 with Ricky Dale scoring 86 and Joe Mills getting his maiden century scoring a superb106 not out in just over 70 balls. Good bowling from Adam Rayner (4 for 36) and Josh Hunt (3 for 48) saw the home team bowled out 104 runs short.

The following week Bapchild entertained Gravesend Rugby Club and being put in to bat scored 262 against a 10 man Gravesend team (Dylan Lee 58, Ricky Dale 51 and Steve Roberts 67). In reply Gravesend struggled to 137 with Josh Hunt and Ricky Dale picking up 3 wickets a piece.

The game the following week against RACs was abandoned to the weather. The penultimate game saw the team travel to struggling Bickley Park. Winning the toss and electing to bat things did not go to plan as Bapchild found themselves 57 for 7. However, Nick Page (31), Joe Cooper (47) and Adam Rayner (11) came to the rescue getting the team to respectable 141. The opening bowlers did their job keeping picking up two wickets for just 27 runs off the first 20 overs and fine bowling by their replacements (Ricky Dale 4 for 18 and Alex Ward 3 for 31) saw Bickley bowled out for 81.

The final game of the season saw Leeds and Broomfield come to Radfield Hill. Bapchild elected to bowl and on a damp pitch used their spinners well with Ricky Dale picking up 6 for 19 and Matthew Roche 4 for 14. With just 95 required Bapchild felt confident especially when they required 2 runs to win with three wickets left. However, managing only 1 run (a wide!) for the last 3 wickets the team ended the season on a tied match.

The team finished 6th in the league for the second year in a row. It is still a young side that is continuing to learn and grow in confidence. Special mention must go to Dylan Lee who scored 1000 runs in all competitions including winning the Kent Village League 1st Division batting award and was one of 5 players who scored their maiden centuries for the club.
