Bapchild Cricket Club

1st Team Summary – 2012 Season

With the first weekend of the 2012 season washed out across the county Bapchild 1st XI had to wait until the following week to get their campaign underway. A good win batting second against RACS away set the tone as the home team were bowled out on a damp pitch for 76 (Ricky Dale 4 for 20, Matthew Roche 3 for 12). A quick fire 51 from Cameron Archbold sealed a nine-wicket win.

The following week the team were home to Wickham Park and again on a damp wicket bowled the opposition out for 48 (Steve Roberts 4 for 11, Alex Ward 3 for 13) and going on to win by six wickets.

Blackheath away saw the team bat first scoring 218 (Cameron Archbold 86, Dylan Lee 56) with Blackheath batting out for a draw (Ricky Dale 4 for 50, Matt Roche 3 for 20).

The good start finally came to an end as the team lost in successive weeks to Offham and Chislehurst but returned to winning ways the following week at home to Bromley Town. Bowling the opposition out for 150 (Matthew Roche 5 for 43, Ricky Dale 4 for 41) went on to knock off the runs with 5 wickets to spare.

The team were at home again the following week to Deal Victoria and the opposition racked up 194 in their allotted overs. Bapchild should have maximised the points but fell just 6 runs short with two wickets remaining at close of play.

The last game in June, against Bickley Park, was again a game that should have been won. Bowing the home team out for 140 (Joshua Hunt 4 for 38) Bapchild again came up short, this time by 20 runs, as they were bowled out in the 47 over with only Adam Larking (58) and John Heatley (28) getting into double figures.

The second half of the season began with a loss to OD CUACO (Adam Larking 52) followed by an abandoned game against RACS due to the weather.

The team returned to winning ways the following two weeks beating Wickham Park by three wickets and Blackheath by 4 wickets. Blackheath was bowled out in the 50th over scoring a solid 218 (Ricky Dale 5 for 63) but an impressive 106 from Cameron Archbold supported by Ricky Dale (77 not out) saw Bapchild home with 6 overs to spare.

The team travelled to unsuccessfully to Offham the next week losing by 58 runs. Mid-August saw Bapchild reverse the earlier result in the year against Chislehurst winning at home by six wickets. Bowling the opposition out for 177 in the 50th over (Joshua Hunt 3 for 34, Matt Roche 3 for 30) two fine knocks from Adam Larking (73 not out) and Alan Hampton (56 not out) saw the team home comfortably in the 44th over.

With holiday season in full swing the team travelled to Bromley Town losing 5 wickets. A fine 67 from Alex Ward was never enough as the team reached only 158 in their allotted overs. Bromley Town knocked off the runs with 4 overs to spare (Steve Roberts 3 for 17).

The 1st team finished the season with two good wins firstly against Deal Victoria who were bowled out for 147 in the 40th over (Matthew Roche 5 for 41). Bapchild knocked of the runs in 30 overs for the loss of just three wickets (Cameron Archbold 51, Alex Ward 42). The second was against Bickley Park on the last day of the season. Bickley was all out for 196 (Ricky Dale 3 for 44 and Alex Ward 3 for 36). Joe Cooper was given an opportunity to bat at number 3 and scored a solid 27 and with support from Joe Mills (42), Adam Larking (36) and Matt Lewis (25), the win looked comfortable. However, a few quick wickets left the home team on 162 for 9 but with in-form Alex Ward and Ricky Dale batting at 10 and 11 they managed to still secure the win by the 39th over

The team finished 6th, our best position since returning to the League. It is a very young side that is starting to gain confidence and consistency and shows very promising potential. Special mention must go to Cameron Archbold who scored his maiden century and 428 League runs and Adam Larking who averaged 50.33 in his 8 games. On the bowling side Ricky Dale’s 32 wickets (53 in all competitions including Winner of the Kent Village League Division 1 bowling award) was also impressive
