Bapchild Cricket Club

1st Team Summary – 2010 Season

2010 saw Bapchild Cricket Club consolidate its position further in our third season since returning to the Kent League. At the beginning of the season the loss of three players including Ben Fulton (captain and leading run scorer in the league for the last two years) and Alan Hampton & Lee Taylor due to work and family commitments meant it was going to be a tough season for the team.

The season started poorly with one abandoned game, three losses and a losing draw as with the highest individual score being 49. However, Bapchild picked up its first win of the season against Bickley Park with a fine century from opener Bryden Lincoln and a 4-16 from Matthew Roche.

Bapchild lost the next two but good batting performances from Adam Larking (68) and Luke MacKay as well as Ricky Dale 4-36 saw the team begin to settle as a unit.

The following week saw Bapchild take on Faringham in a bottom of the table clash. Batting first Bapchild reached 187 with good low order batting from Ricky Dale (40) and 16 year old Joe Mills (44). Great bowling from Matthew Roche 4-32 and Joshua Hunt 3-28 saw Faringham falling short at 157.

The team lost to Offham the following week but was good to see 16 year old Joshua Hunt get his maiden senior 50 at the top of the order.

By the end of July, relegation was looking likely as the team lost to Macknade but in the same game with Lee Cogger picking up 66 and Matthew Roche 5-49 as well as Luke MacKay still consistently hitting 30’s and 40’s morale was still high.

Finally it all game together in August starting with a draw at Bromley Town with Matthew Roche 6-46, followed by three wins back to back.

Firstly chasing down 177 against Blackheath with two wickets to spare with a fine batting performance from Alistair Howard 79 not out and supported at the end by Alex Ward (19).

The following week saw the team away to Bickley Park. Batting first the team scoring 177 (Luke Mackay 44, Ricky Dale 29) and then bowling out Bickley for 153 (Dale 3-27, Ward 2-22).

The third win came against Chislehurst at home where the visiting team scored 201 (Matthew Roche 4-56). Bapchild top order all chipped in Adam Larking (35), Lee Cogger (45), Joe Mills (31) and Ricky Dale (39) seeing the team home with 6 wickets to spare.

The final game was against Deal Victoria and saw the team chasing 235 (Ricky Dale (4-57) Matthew Roche (3-49) and although a fine knock by Adam Larking (71) saw the team coming up short by 29 runs.

The end of the season saw Bapchild in 6th position which taking into consideration the start of the season with regards to players and results was pleasing with much of the thanks going to newly appointed captain Lee Cogger who by the end of the season had produced a much more confident team. Congratulations to Matt Roche who was the division’s leading wicket taker for the second consecutive year with 38 wickets.
