Bapchild Cricket Club

1st Team Summary – 2008 Season

2008 saw the return of Bapchild Cricket Club to the Kent League. We were full of optimism as the season approached with the recruitment of 1 or 2 experienced players. However, a slow start meant that after 4 games we were still looking for our first win.

This duly followed against Macknade where 17 year old Matt Lewis took 5-17 in a comprehensive victory. The next few weeks saw us put together a run of wins as the batting and bowling fired at long last, led by Ben Fulton and Alan Hampton. However, we were soon bought crashing back to earth with bad results against RACS and Addington.

As per our up and down season we looked to be facing a heavy defeat at Farningham being 80/4 chasing 220. However, a partnership of 120 between Ben Fulton and John Heatley led us to victory. As the season reached its finish we needed 5 points to be guaranteed safety and a position in Division 5 next year. Following a tense rain affected game against eventual Champions Addington we duly secured the points.

Congratulations must go to Ben Fulton who finished as the leagues leading runs scorer
