All three Saturday teams lost at the weekend not helped by the weather while the Sunday’s game was abandoned due to the heavy rain that came down
The 1st XI went to Sibton Park and was put into the field. The home team got off to a steady start until Harry Mantle (1 for 12) made the initial break through. Tom Carey (2 for 32) and Ricky Dale (1 for 23) kept the pressure on as Sibton reached 79 for 4 in the 24th over. However, it was Joe Mills spell of 6 overs 5 for 12 and supported by Kesha Rajadurai returning for his first match of the season (1 for 16 off 7.5 overs) that cleaned up taking the last 6 wickets for just 24 runs as Sibton Park found themselves all out for 124 in the 42nd over.
Wickets fell early after the break as Bapchild found themselves 23 for 3 and a further 4 wickets in 11 balls for just two runs seemed to seal the game for the home team. Matt Lewis (42) and Kesha (15 no) tried to rally the team but they were finally dismissed for 91 in the 36th over.
The 2nd XI were at home to Deal Victoria & Barnes Close CC and in a rain affected match the visitors winning the toss and batting first paid dividends as they reached 215 for 9 in their allotted overs (Ollie Julier 2 for 37, Tony Hadfield 2 for 21). Bapchild reached only 66 in reply (Simon Cosstick 19, Chris Knope 16, Charlie Wash 15)
The 3rd XI travelled to Kings Hill to play their 4th XI and again the toss proved to be vital as Bapchild was put into bat on a very uneven and damp picture. Matt Lincoln returning after a long absence opened with Nathan Glazier. With the pitch “very lively” scoring was difficult where 100 is a par and normally a winning score. Nathan fell early to a excellent catch by the Kings Hill keeper and Matt followed shortly afterwards. Captain Linc Bryden batted sensibly and worked hard to a well deserved 61 while the wickets fell around him. At 91 for 9 it looked like the team would fall short of par but an excellent defensive innings from Vincent Hogben (4) and Nilesh Rajgor (7 no) frustrated the opposition as the score crept to 113 before Vincent succumbed.
Captain Lincoln was back in action straight after the break taking 2 for 17 from his 9 overs and picking up his first catch of the season that stunned both teams, the crowd and himself as he plucked a screamer over his head from The Chairman’s log hop ball. Sophie Hogben bowled well for her 1 for 34 as did Harvey Bryden 1 for 14 and it looked like the team may have been in for a shout as the opposition was 53 for 5. Unfortunately the pitch became flat and did not perform the antics of the first half and despite two late wickets from Nilesh (2 for 13) Kings Hill crossed the line with 3 wickets and 6 overs to spare.
The Sunday XI match against Frindsbury CC was rained off.
The U12s lost in a tight game on Thursday by just 5 net runs with wickets taken being the key factor.
The U14s lost by 10 wickets against Minster in a low scoring match.
The U16s match was cancelled due to the weather
