Memorial Match day completes 2024 Season

Memorial Match Day 2024

Bapchild CC held its Annual Memorial Match Day that signifies the end of the current season.

The day started with the U10’s squad playing a game of quick cricket for the first hour followed by a U12/U14 inter-club Hundred Match.

A selection of under 12 and under 14 colts were equally divided into two teams and a match based the The Hundred rules was played with batsmen retiring on 20 runs

Captain of Team Blue, Aaryan Rajgor, called heads won the toss and elected to bat first on a hard fast track . After losing a couple of early wickets Jaiden Carollo batted well retiring on 23 not out and was helped along by Sohan Jagannatha (13) and William Roe (12) to reach a score of 128 for 6 at the close of their innings.

Openers for Team Green,  Sophie Hogben (15) and Anjali Smith (20) started well in reply and Winston Roe (15) and captain Henry Louden (8) did their upmost to chase the score down ending just 15 runs short of the total

Well done to all who played in a fun filled match watched by parents and grandparents

It was then time for the senior inter-club game also based on The Hundred but consisted of two innings per team with each innings consisting of 100 balls.

After the formal photos the team changed and before the game start a few words and a minutes silence was held in memory of those the Club had lost over the years and in particular Vice Presidents Kath Mitchell and Mick Lidstone who both passed earlier in the year and are missed greatly.

Adam Rayner’s team batted first with Yuvraj Rajgor getting off to a flying start while Tyler Wassell didn’t !!!!  Yuvraj felt confident to take a quick run regardless that the bowler had the ball a returned to the pavilion.  Bowling was on point and the team struggled to 72 for 8 off their first 100 balls with only wicketkeeper Nick’s Page incredible non-stumping to mention after The Chairman had left his crease only to return safely some 10 seconds later.  In reply, after a dazzling bowling performance, James Weller hit 37 to take his team to 109 in their first innings.

Adam’s team improved slightly in the second half although season top scorer and wicket taker Tom Carey didn’t prove why he was even though he given an extra innings to try !!!.   The Chairman laying flat on his back doing dust angels helped him to not be stumped again but didnt last long anyway.  Toby Heather played a good cameo but the team only managed to get 55 runs ahead by the end of their second innings.

Sensible batting by Lee Cogger and big hitting by Ethan Collier against some good bowling saw Matt Lewis’s team knock the runs off with 45 balls to spare.

A BBQ donated and cooked by Eric ended the perfect day to end the season.

Many thanks who took part throughout the day.   The day was played in the spirit that defines Bapchild Cricket Club and it was lovely seeing players together with their children, wives, parents, grandparents and friends enjoying and being part of the day and the Club
