THE ECB announced the recommendation to suspend all forms of recreational cricket due to the COVID-19 Virus

Bapchild CC accepts this recommendation and suspends all training sessions, matches and associated activities with immediate effectWe will keep all members advised as the situation develops

A copy of the recommendation can be seen below

Dear all,

Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended.

This extends to training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity.

Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical wellbeing, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities – particularly at junior levels.

Using our cricket community to support others could be one of the most important services we can offer during the difficult next few months.

It will be critical that any decisions we do make are medically-led. And we will continue to work with Government and their advisors to ensure we are informed by science in our decision making.

Over the coming weeks we will work with the game to understand what support is required across the cricket community, particularly local clubs and leagues.

We understand that countless hours of work from thousands of volunteers have already gone into getting ready for the 2020 season and we know how disappointing this will be. We are thankful for the huge role that volunteers play in local cricket, to ensure the game remains at the heart of communities.

We know that you and your clubs can play an important role in bringing your community together once we get past this period of time.

The 1st XI scored a record 347 against Faversham 1st XI to win their local derby by 217 runs.

A superb 113 from captain Ricky Dale building on a fine opening partnership from Adam Larking (40) and Tom Carey (57). Lee Taylor (36) and Callum Leary (33) continued to pile on the runs as the team reached a Saturday team record of 347 for 6 off their 50 overs.

Only one Faversham player put up any resistance as they were all out for 130 in the 34th over. Pick of the bowling was openers Harry Mantle (3 for 16) and Owen Harrison (3 for 20) with good support from Tyler Wassell (2 for 55) and Matt Lewis (2 for 18)

The 2nd XI entertained Hartley and batting first saw captain Nick Page (86) put on another not out score ably supported by James Weller (57) and with a quick cameo from Linc Bryden (17) at the end saw the team reach 232 for 6 in their 46 overs

Solid bowling from Lee Cogger (2 for 38) and Adam Rayner (1 for 35) set the platform up for the spinners as Luke Whitehouse (4 for 34) and Glenn Kennett (3 for 23) removed the remaining batsman as Hartley were bowled out for 139 in 34 overs

The 3rd XI were at home to Minster who elected to bat. Michael Neame (5 for 14) picked up the clubs first 5 wicket haul of the season and supported by Tony Hadfield (3 for 7 off 2) meant the visitors were all out for 117 in the 32nd over

A jug avoidance innings from Nathan Glazier (49) and another not out innings from Chris Hogg (29) saw the team reach the target with 5 wickets and 4.4 overs to spare.

The Sunday XI travelled to Selsted and elected to field – Selsted unfortunately only had 9 players and found themselves bowled out for 96 in 35.4 overs. Pick of the bowlers J. Mitchell (3 for 15), James Weller (2 for 26) and Anthony Burbury (2 for 6)

The runs were knocked off in 18.5 overs with 5 wickets to spare. Captain James Sutton 32 no being the top score.

On the last weekend of League cricket Owen Harrison picked up a 5 wicket haul on Sunday against Stone-in-Oxley

The Sunday XI travelled to deepest Kent in their last Division 1 Kent Village League game of the season. If the won they would finish in 3rd place. The home team elected to bat and was immediately under pressure as a spell binding performance by Owen (5 for 35) saw him rip through the top order. Owen would have picked up a couple of more wickets had it not been for some unfortunate drop catches. Josh Hunt supported Owen picking up 2 for 24 in his 9 overs. The home team were removed for 133 in the 33rd over having been 44 for 6.

James Sutton (23), James Weller (20) and Ricky Dale (26) got the team off to a good start supported in the middle by Will Cosstick (15) and Anthony Burbury (10) but as wickets fell Josh Hunt batting at number 9 decided to finish the game with a quick fire 19.

The team won by 2 wickets in the 34th over and secured a well deserved 3rd place over all. Special mention to Ricky Dale as Captain, leading batsman and leading bowler who also jointly took the most wickets in the league.

The first team entertained Finsbury who looking for promotion elected to bat. Wickets fell regularly but the visitors pushed on scoring 201 for 8 declared in the 45th over. Ricky Dale (4 for 47) and Owen Harrison (2 for 54) being the pick of the bowling

The team started well with Adam Larking (16), James Weller (27) and Ricky Dale knocked up a fine 73 set the team up well for the run chase. However, with six of the last seven batsman not getting into double figures the team was bowled out for 177 in the 47th over

The 1st team had a good year finishing comfortably in 6th place and had the weather affected games when the team were in winning positions no doubt we they would have finished much higher.

The 2nd XI travelled to Bettshanger and was put into the field. Two early run outs put the home team under pressure and although a third wicket stand looked to threaten it once again took another excellent spell from Glenn Kennett (4 for 34) and a further run out saw Bettshanger on 167 of 7 at the close of their innings.

A fine opening partnership by Simon Cosstick (51) and Nathan Glazier (46) was built on by Nick Page (15) and Joe Mills (28) as the team reached the target with the loss of 3 wickets in the 38th over

The 2nd XI finished 4th in their first year back in the Kent League – a great effort by all the team but special mention to Glenn Kennett who won Division 5 2nd XI bowling award with 42 wickets

The 3rd XI travelled to Holborough Anchorians and were put into bat. Wickets fell quickly and with only Paul Gilbert (28 no) reaching double figures the team was all out 51 in the 23rd over

The team managed to pick up 1 wicket but the home team comfortably crossed the line in the 11th over.

The 3XI came an excellent 7th in their league winning a record 7 games

A great season and thank you to all the players for the way they have once again played their cricket and made the Club proud. Also many thanks to the supporters and volunteers for being an important part of the club

With end of school discos and school plays taking place the Bees were a few of their regular players missing but gave opportunity for a couple of new player to make their league debut

Captains Dan Covey for the Broncos and Jacob Carter for the Bees did the toss and on winning the toss the Bees elected to bat

All batsman batted well with Freddie Corner top score with 10 and young Archie Covery chipping in a good 7. The bees completed their innings setting a target for the Broncos of 201. Top Bronco bowler was Darcy Carter with figures of 3 wickets for just 5 runs off 2 overs

The Broncos took the game to the Bees especially in the second pair with Jake Connolly teeing off with an excellent 22 runs able supported by Skipper Dan Covey scoring 17 runs

Bees stuck to their game but could not stop the Broncos who passed their total to win the game. Pick of the Bees bowling was young Archie Covey with figures of 1 for 14 off 3 overs. The wicket being that of his older brother Dan ! Oops !

A great night had by all – well done to all who took part in a very enjoyable evening of cricket

Congratulations to Matt Lewis who finally got his maiden fifty at senior level after a long wait.

Matt travelled to Offham with the 2nd XI and was put into bat. Two early wickets put the pressure on but Captain Nick Page (22) and James Sutton put on a 50 partnership until Nick was run out. James was joined by Tom Carey and together they put on an impressive 103 run partnership until James on 64 holed out. Matt joined Tom in the middle and as Tom moved on to an excellent 92 not out, Matt finally reached his first senior 50 just before then end of the innings with the score on 248 for 4

Offham decided not to chase the target and even though Bapchild threw 9 bowlers into the attack at the close the home team were on 158 for 2 giving the team a winning draw

The 1st XI had a delayed start against Rainham 1st XI at Radfield Hill due to a damp pitch and with the game reduced to 38 overs aside Rainham decided to bat. Some outstanding bowling from openers Adam Rayner (4 for 24) and Joshua Hunt (3 for 27) supported by some outstanding fielding meant the visitors found themselves 44 for 7. Rainham rallied and reached 116 for 9 off their allotted overs.

The team lost an early wicket but the team looked comfortable even though wickets fell regularly and with the score on 95 for 5 a well deserved win looked on the books. However as the overs whittled away and with some good bowling the pressure mounted and unfortunately the team found themselves all out for 108 half way through the last over.

The 3rd XI continued their winning ways when they visited Rainham 3XI. Electing to field Bapchild picked up wickets regularly with some fine bowling from Ethan Collier (4 for 34) Graeme Corner (3 for 24) Neil Bloor (3 for 18) and Shiv Patel (0 for 38) meant the home team were bowled out for 118 in the 37th over

Bapchild lost three early wickets but a fine partnership between Chris Knope (32) and James Elkin (49 not out) who avoided a jug by hitting a 4 to win the match instead of a six saw the 3s win by 5 wickets in the 33rd over making it 5 out of 5.

(FootNote: The Chairman had not been selected for the 3s this week because it was a warm day and it seems he only gets picked when it is freezing cold !!)

The Sunday XI did not have a match this week
