In the afternoon the seniors played against a Roy Lincoln XI (Roy being a previous Chairman of the Club) captained by Roy’s son Jimmy. The match was keenly fought with the Roy’x XI scoring 227 and the Bapchild XI falling just short. Money was also raised for the Primary Club a charity that Roy supported.

The Barracudas won the toss and elected to bat starting well with both openers Patrick Hogben (25) and Archie Covey (31) retiring. Will Surridge score 14 before being bowled by Isabel MacDonald. Wickets were shared around but an unbeaten 22 from Ethan Tollervey saw the Barracudas reach 153 in their allotted 20 overs.

Bears started well with Bryn Foot opening the batting and making a steady start scoring 12 with Cameron lynch 10 to get the run chase on its way. But wickets fell regularly but with a fine 27 from Jack Louden and Jay Sharma (13) it looked like the Bears may pinch the win but with Jack retiring and some good bowling saw the team fall 16 runs short at the end. The game was played in great spirit which Roy would have enjoyed so much. and a lovely morning was had by players and spectators alike in memory of Roy and a fitting tribute to a man who was the chief instigator of colts cricket at the club and without whom colts cricket may have never took place at all at Radfield Hill

In the afternoon a 40 over senior game was held with a Bapchild XI made up of players now in our senior squad who were colts in Roy’s day playing against a Roy Lincoln XI captained by his son Jimmy and made up of Bapchild senior players (including Chris Holman and Ben Fulton) and invited players from the Kent Village League of which Roy was Chairman of for many years such as Jeremey and Jordan Godden.

Bapchild XI – Roy Lincoln Memorial Match Day Sept 2021

The Roy XI picked up an early wicket but a fine partnership between Matt Lewis (28) and Ricky Dale (65) steadied the ship after a slow start due to excellent bowling by Lee Cogger (8 overs for 19). James Weller (27) and Tom Carey (29 not out) picked up some late runs as the Bapchild XI finished on 190 for 5.

During the interval, the Club presented a Memorial Bench for the ground, and it was lovely that Jenny, Roy’s wife, daughters Victoria and sally and grandchildren were also able to join us and be part of the special day.

Jenny and Victoria Lincoln with Roy’s grandchildren on the Memorial Bench presented by members of the Club in memory of Roy

Bapchild XI picked up three early wickets but Ben Fulton (23) and Chris Holman (21) moved the score along. A great partnership from Alan Hampton (58 not out) and Jim Lincoln (34) looked like the Roy’s Xi would cruise to victory with a couple of overs to spare but a good catch from Tom Carey to dismiss Jim meant the team need 7 runs off 15 balls with three wickets standing to win. Will Cosstick picked up a wicket straight away going for just one run and Adam Rayner then bowled a wicket maiden meaning 5 runs were needed in the last over. Will Cosstick went for 3 runs off his first 2 balls but managed to pick up the last wicket on his third ball leaving the Roy Lincoln XI just 3 runs short of victory

Again it was great to see the game being played in such great spirit and the evening was spent reminiscing over old time and great memories of Roy

The Club also raised £300 for the primary club which was a dear favourite of Roy’s.

Thank you to those who helped to arrange the day from Arch and his coaching team in the morning to particularly Lee and John for the afternoon match

The traditional end of season Chairman’s match took place on the the 8th September.

Two team’s, the Chairman’s Clubbers and Sutton’s Swingers fought out two matches over the day

Captain James Sutton won the toss and elected (was told) to bat in the first game which was a T20 match 12-a-side match. Owen Harrison showed his intention hitting 4 off the first ball but succumbed to Ethan Collier a couple of balls later. Everyone chipped with Ricky Dale retiring on 30, Ashley Bax (22) Tyler Wassell (17) and James Sutton (12) all reaching double figures. Izzy Julier also chipped in with 8 not out. The team reached 127 for 6 off their allotted overs.

James Weller (32 ret) opened with the Chairman who was at the non-stirkers end for the first ball – excellent calling from his partner meant he was run out by two yards without facing a ball. Poor or kind umpiring meant the Chairman stayed in but was completely bamboozled by Luke Whitehouse and was clean bowled the next ball for 0. Again everyone chipped in with Lee Taylor (18) and Adam Larking (22) getting double figures they were ably supported by the likes of Ella Hadler (8). The game went down to the last over and a wicket on the first ball meant 5 runs were need with 5 balls and one wicket standing. The Clubber’s reached the target with one ball to spare

After tea at the second game commenced, an 18 over pairs cricket match, with the Clubbers batting – the first pair of Anthony Burbury/Lee Cogger put on 21 for 1 in their three overs. The Chairman did better second time around being paired with Steve Roberts scoring 28 for 1, while the pairings of Lee Taylor/Ella Hadler (26 for 0) and Ethan Collier/James Weller (26 for 1) meant the team reached 163 for 7 giving a final total of 128 to chase

The Swinger’s looking for the first win opened with Nathan Glazier/Luke Whitehouse and while scoring 23 lost 3 wickets. Daniel Gunner/Owen Harrison (32 for 2) and Ashley Bax/Tyler Wassell (36 for 1) all added to the score but many of the remaining pairs lost valuable wickets. The Swinger’s final ended on 130 for 11 giving a final total of 75 and a second winner for the Chairman’s Clubbers

The event was attended by over 70 players, members and supporters who enjoyed some great home hot food provided by Mrs Chairman, Mel Hawkes, Christine Pumfrett and Shirley Lidstone. A great day to end the season.

The Club had a great night celebrating the season at its Annual Dinner & Dance

After an enjoyable three course meal the club celebrated the clubs and individual successes from the 2017 season.

The Chairman welcomed the 70+ guests and was pleased to see some new members attending for the first time as well as being thankful to those who continue to support the event each year. He went on to congratulate both the junior and senior sections for making 2017 such a successful season. The junior section had won the U13 League, the U11 Cup and League runners up. He thanked Richard (Arch) Archbold (Development Manager), coaches and young leaders that had worked so hard throughout the year. He also thanked Arch for the work he had put in achieving the Club Mark Accreditation for another 3 years.

The Chairman then spoke of the senior teams where the 1st team had come 4th scoring 250pts and had a few close games gone the right way and the weather had not played a part we may have been promoted. The 2nd XI missed promotion by just 8pts and had beaten both of the top teams. The 3rd XI continued to blood new players especially some promising colts and the Sunday XI came a comfortable 10th. It was also fantastic for the club that Adam Larking (745 runs) had won the Kent League Division 5 – 1st team award.
