MILLS HAT-TRICK BAMBOOZLES HARTLIP

17/05/07

Joe Mills took a sensational hat-trick with his leg-breaks at Radfield Hill on Sunday as Bapchild Bears cruised to a 135-run victory over Hartlip.  Skipper Josh Hunt won the toss and inserted the visitors who started badly as Ben Ryder struck an early breakthrough in an impressive opening burst.  Hartlip staged a brief recovery before the introduction of Mills caused absolute mayhem within their ranks as he took wickets with the last 3 balls of his first over, all cleaned bowled with beautifully pitched leg-breaks.  He added another wicket in his next over and finished with 4 for 4 from his 3 overs.  Also in the wickets were Joe Cooper and Simon Groenhuysen as the Hartlip innings closed on just 191.

The Bears began their innings in typical fashion as Henry Kitney emptied the Bapchild bar by smashing 25 from just 13 balls in a partnership of 47 with Cameron Archbold.  Joe Cooper (11*) and Simon Groenhuysen (18*) also batted wel,l pushing the game beyond Hartlip.  Mills completed an excellent personal performance by scoring 20* in a partnership of 32 with Ryder that rounded off a fine all-round display from the Bears.  The Bears now top the Sale Under 13 League and face a crucial game against Rodmersham this coming Sunday (24th June).

BEARS FEAST ON MACKNADE

10/06/07

Bapchild Bears produced their most confident and dominant display of the season on Sunday in completing a massive 152-run victory over Macknade.  Having been inserted on a poor wicket the Bears signalled their intentions from the start with Henry Kitney yet again getting the innings off to a flyer with a blistering 31 from just 10 balls.  Dylan Lee (17*) and Joe Cooper (21*) continued the onslaught, adding 49 in 4 overs.  The momentum was never lost as every player contributed.  Particularly impressive was skipper Josh Hunt who hammered a quickfire 31.  Following a late rally from Joe Mills and Ben Ryder the final total was a daunting 371.

Faced with such an uphill task, Macknade started badly as Ryder and Hunt both claimed early wickets.  Despite the game being pretty much over the Bears maintained their concentration and fielded excellently to support the bowlers, Joe Cooper leading this with a catch and a run-out.  Kitney and Hunt rounded off excellent individual performances by finishing with 3 wickets each while Joe Mills also picked up a well-deserved scalp.  Macknade battled hard, but finished with a total of just 219.  A thoroughly professional performance from all.

The Bears continue their impressive season at home to Hartlip this coming Sunday (17th June).

BEARS SUFFER NARROW DEFEAT

03/6/07

Bapchild Bears lost their unbeaten record on Sunday to a strong St. Lawrence side.  Again, the Bears lost players to the district competition, but still put in an impressive display that pushed St. Lawrence all the way.

Skipper, Josh Hunt, won the toss and inserted the visitors on a damp morning at Radfield Hill.  St. Lawrence began brightly but were pegged back by wickets from Hunt and the impressive Harry Pattinson.  Also in the wickets were Joe Mills and Bruce Tatton as St. Lawrence batted steadily, but were kept in check by a good all-round fielding performance.  The innings closed with the total at 269.

Bapchild began their reply well with Henry Kitney striking 3 boundaries, but St. Lawrence responded by dismissing him to keep the score in check.  Pattinson, Tatton and Ryder all played well, but 2 more wickets were lost and it came down to the last pair Mills and Hunt requiring 20 runs from 4 overs, assuming they didn't lose a wicket.  Both players struck the ball well, but unfortunately Hunt edged to the wicketkeeper resulting in 9 needed from the last over.  An excellent last over, full of yorkers meant only 5 runs could be scrambled and the result was a 3-run defeat.  However, the boys can all be proud of themselves for competing throughout and almost overcoming a strong outfit.  The Bears welcome back district players Joe Cooper, Dylan Lee, Simon Groenhuysen and Cameron Archbold for next Sunday's visit to Macknade.

NEW-LOOK BEARS PREY ON MINSTER

20/5/07

With district cricket taking place this week Bapchild Bears found themselves missing 5 of the side that had started the first 3 games.  However, a sign of the depth we have in this particular age group was that we were still able to complete a 147-run victory over our young, inexperienced opponents, Minster.

Brought into the side were Harry Pattinson, Bertie O'Brien, Lewis King, Simeon Blackbourn and Alex Pfeifer-Brown and they all performed admirably.  Skipper Josh Hunt won the toss and asked Minster to bat first.  His bowlers all responded with Pattinson, O'Brien, Blackbourn and Kitney all picking up 2 wickets apiece.  Excellent bowling and fielding led to 12 wickets falling throughout the inninngs and the resulting total was just 179.

Henry Kitney opened the innings with his usual fireworks and smashed a brutal 35* from just 15 balls which ended any chance Minster had.  This is the highest individual score in any under-13 game this season.  Everyone else batted very sensibly with Josh Hunt (17*) and Joe Mills (15*) impressing, while Harry Pattinson and Bertie O'Brien put on 30 in 4 overs with some superb running between the wickets.  The Bears total ended on 326, meaning they have eclipsed the 300 mark in each of their 4 opening games.

BEARS BATTLE THROUGH RAIN TO CONTINUE WINNING STREAK

13/5/07

Bapchild Bears completed a comfortable 61-run win over Lower Halstow and Upchurch to make it 3 wins from 3 games.  Bapchild lost the toss and were inserted on a wet wicket and difficult light.  However, another excellent batting display saw the Bears lose only one wicket in compiling an impressive total of 311.  Everybody played their part but particularly impressive were Joe Cooper (22*) and Joe Mills (14*) who put away bad balls with great efficiency.

Lower Halstow and Upchurch came out to bat in the drizzle playing lots of shots, but Ben Ryder struck 3 early blows which meant they slipped behind the required run rate very quickly.  Their chase was made even more difficult with economic spells from Cameron Archbold, Henry Kitney and Joe Mills.  Skipper Josh Hunt picked up 2 wickets to finish the match off, the visitors total finishing on 250.  This was an excellent display by everyone in very tricky conditions.

BEARS OVERCOME SPIRITED BARRACUDAS

6/5/07bapchild-bears

Bapchild Bears enjoyed a fairly comfortable 57-run victory over Bapchild Barracudas in the first derby of the season on Sunday.  However, the Barracudas performed admirably and the result was still in the balance three quarters of the way through the match.  Asked to bat first, the Barracudas began positively with Max Tatton and Liam Ward hitting a boundary apiece before Josh Hunt and Simon Groenhuysen picked up wickets to slow the run rate.  The brakes were put on the Barracudas further by an excellent spell of bowling by Henry Kitney who finished with figures of 2-6 from his 3 overs.  However, the innings received a final boost with an unbroken stand of 22 between the last pair of Lewis King (Top score with 13*) and Sam Henley.  The innings ended with the score at 258.

The Bears' innings began with fireworks as Kitney hit two massive sixes and Cameron Archbold three more boundaries, however three wickets were lost in this period as the Barracudas fought hard with impressive fielding.  From this point on however, the bears batted sensibly and took advantage of what loose balls were available, with Joe Cooper, Dylan Lee, Josh Hunt and the hard-hitting Simon Groenhuysen all scoring freely.  A late surge from Ben Ryder and Joe Mills saw the Bears' total past 300, the innings finishing with the total at 315 and a convincing, if slightly flattering, winning margin.  The Bears continue their campaign at home to Upchurch and Lower Halstow this coming Sunday (13th May) at 10am.

BEARS SHOW THEIR TEETH

29/4/07
Bapchild Bears kicked off the 2007 season with a massive 99-run victory over Gore Court at Radfield Hill on Sunday .  After winning the toss the Bears bowled tightly and Gore Court struggled to get any momentum.  The initial breakthrough was made by Cameron Archbold before Joe Mills also claimed a wicket with his leg breaks.  Captain Josh Hunt bowled brilliantly at the death claiming 3-9, leaving the Bears the fairly modest total of 240 to chase.  Special mention must go to Dylan Lee who kept very tidily in his first match in the under 13 age group.

The Bears came out to bat in positive mood with Henry Kitney blasting a boundary from the first ball of the innings.  This momentum was maintained by Joe Cooper and then Simon Groenhuysen (top score with 24*) as the Gore Court total was passed with ease.  The innings was finished off by Ben Ryder and Joe Mills who kept the run rate at around 9 an over as the Bears finished on 339.  Great start lads!  Next up for the Bears is the local derby against the Barracudas this coming Sunday (6th May) at 10am.
