Simon Ledger

Dear Shrek,

Since I began driving recently, I have noticed that there are a lot of bad drivers on the road, they park on cycle lanes and often drive in the wrong gear. I have found my frustrations with these drivers manifesting itself in road rage. What is worse, after a long drive to a game, I am finding that my rage is being caried on to the pitch. Only the other week, I found myself giving 'the stare' to a batsnman, followed by a mouthful of abuse, after he hit my over for 28. Consequently, the batsman and my teammates were overcome by complete fear, and everyone kept their distance from me for the rest of the afternoon. What can I do to curb this aggression?

Regards Simon Ledger

Dear Simon,

We have found at my club that the best way to curb such aggression is to transfrom your anger into cutting but witty remarks, or ironic praise or advice. This reduces confrontation and gives cause for laughter to all those playing. You might like to hope that the batsman has learnt a valuable lesson if you get him out after he dared to hit you for 6, or when he finally plays a stroke on the offside, you could inform him that it is the first cricket shot he has played today.

Club Objectives

1. to provide a focus for the local community
2. to provide cricket for all it’s members regardless of ace, nationality, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs, age, ability, disability, sex, sexual orientation or economic circumstances and other social pursuits as the committee deem neccessary.
